Microsoft launches outlook.com NEW email service
This is Outlook.com
For the time being, at least, it will exist separately from Hotmail. So why didn't Redmond just give Hotmail a drastic overhaul? Well, friends, there are two explanations. First, the polite one: for technical reasons, the engineers found it easier to build a new service from scratch rather than retrofit the old one. The frank answer: Microsoft is keenly aware Hotmail has a bad rap, thanks to those banners and flashy video ads. In fact, the company has been very candid that it wants not just to compete with Gmail, but siphon away some of its growing user base. As such, Outlook offers a fresh, minimal interface -- far cleaner than Hotmail ever looked. What's more, the ads are more pared-down here: no video adverts, and no targeted ads on messages between people (newsletters are still fair game). The service is open to the public as of today and you get virtually unlimited storage, along with 7GB of SkyDrive space if you create a new Microsoft account. (Microsoft uses the word "virtually" to hedge itself against spammers who might otherwise use limitless storage to game the system.) And you should take our word when we say it's worth giving the service a shot
If you already have a Hotmail account, you can upgrade by clicking Options in the upper-right corner and selecting "Upgrade to Outlook.com." Once you make the jump, you can always revert back to the old service if you feel more comfortable there. For now, the two services will exist separately, and according to Microsoft, that will be the case for the foreseeable future. Interestingly, the company isn't promising that it won't ever force you into an Outlook.com upgrade, but it would seem, at least, that this isn't the plan for the near term.
Coming over from another email service
If you're transferring over from Gmail (and Microsoft sure hopes you are), you can skip straight to Outlook.com and create an account. You'll also need to go into Gmail settings and set up forwarding. (By default, Gmail keeps a copy of your incoming messages. It's your call if you want Google to mark them as read, archive them or just leave them sitting there, unopened.)
Once we did that, we had no problem importing our contacts list, which we'll discuss in more detail down in the "Email features section." If you want, you can use POP to import all your old email. You can also program Gmail keyboard shortcuts if you go into the full settings menu. (Alternatively, if you want to educate yourself on Hotmail / Outlook.com shortcuts, this would be a good place to start.)
Still, our experience transitioning from Gmail to Outlook.com wasn't completely smooth: our labels didn't come with us, and whenever we responded to a message from Gmail, our response didn't sync with Outlook.com.
Attachments
It would be incorrect to say there's no file attachment size limit in Outlook.com, but the max size is certainly higher than Gmail's: 300MB versus 25MB. But, that number assumes you're uploading attachments from SkyDrive; if you're uploading from anywhere else, the file limit drops to 100MB. By default, Outlook.com will check for missing attachments when you're sending a message, though you can turn this feature off if you're so inclined.
Like Hotmail, Outlook.com has so-called Active View, which lets you open slideshows, YouTube clips and other attached media files from within the inbox. Open a batch of photos for instance, and they'll appear as a big overlay on your screen, allowing you to click through pictures instead of making you open them in a new tab or download them. Additionally, you can open Office files (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) in the browser, even if you don't have Office installed locally.
Search in email
The built-in search bar on the left side of the screen responds quickly, narrowing down results as you type more letters. If you click in the field, you'll also see an option for advanced search, which lets you filter by sender, recipient, subject, folder, date range, keywords and whether or not the message has an attachment.

What you get
In Outlook.com, the storage is "virtually" unlimited, to use Microsoft's words. (The company won't fully promise unlimited storage, since it needs a way to hedge against spammers.) That compares with 10GB of free storage on Gmail. Not bad, eh? Also, as you might know, every Microsoft account comes with 7GB of SkyDrive storage, so that's what you'll get if you're new to the company fold. Also, anyone can sign up; you don't need an invitation, and there's no limit to the number of people allowed to test the service in its preview stage.Getting started
Creating an account
If you already have a Hotmail account, you can upgrade by clicking Options in the upper-right corner and selecting "Upgrade to Outlook.com." Once you make the jump, you can always revert back to the old service if you feel more comfortable there. Email features
If you're wondering why we're only now starting to talk about email features, it's because they're not very different from what you'll get in Hotmail. Since the real story is the fresh UI and the new approach to ads, we decided to get the look and feel bit out of the way first. That said, if Microsoft succeeds in luring away some of Google's users, it's worth recapping what features Hotmail and Outlook.com have to offer.Attachments

Skype integration
To all of you who have been wondering just what Microsoft was going to do with Skype, here's your answer: Outlook.com will have Skype built in, not unlike the way Gmail has Google Talk integrated. (That would explain those job postings for Skype in the cloud, huh?) Unfortunately, the service isn't ready just yet, but Microsoft says it will be rolling out soon, so stay tuned.
In the meantime, you can use Facebook Chat to talk to people, with the option of saving conversations in your inbox. We have to say, though, we did miss Google Talk after we made the switch: Facebook isn't as widely used a chat client, and Microsoft also doesn't have an IM client quite that ubiquitous (no, not even Live Messenger). Still, Skype will naturally come in handy for video chatting, though.Mobile access
At the moment, there aren't any standalone mobile applications, so if you want to access Outlook.com on the go you'll need to use either a browser or any app that already supports Exchange ActiveSync. In fact, if you open the Hotmail.com app and log in using your Outlook.com credentials, you'll be able to use the app (minus, of course, the UI you'll get on Outlook's full site). For now, Microsoft won't say which mobile platforms it's considering, or when the first apps might arrive.(Source)

Samsung's Music Hub Feature comes to the US
Source - Samsung |
Although Music Hub has already launched overseas in several European countries as part and parcel of its latest flagship, that service is now finally ready for primetime in the US.
Built upon the mSpot tech it acquired this past May, the company's freemium service combines the best of both worlds, offering non-paying users access to a digital storefront loaded up with millions of tracks from all four major labels (and some indies, too), a web-based player, as well as the ability to store purchased music remotely and offline for "registered devices." Whereas, the subscription version builds upon those gratis goods by adding personalized radio stations, free streaming and an iTunes-like "Scan & Match" feature to the mix for $10 monthly.

Steam coming to Linux, Starting with Ubuntu
On the Valve Linux blog Valve mentioned that Steam will be coming to Linux, they would give no date. But said they will start with Ubuntu, why? This is what they said.
"There are a couple of reasons for that. First, we’re just starting development and working with a single distribution is critical when you are experimenting, as we are. It reduces the variability of the testing space and makes early iteration easier and faster. Secondly, Ubuntu is a popular distribution and has recognition with the general gaming and developer communities. This doesn’t mean that Ubuntu will be the only distribution we support. Based on the success of our efforts around Ubuntu, we will look at supporting other distributions in the future." (Source)
Valve worked on porting Left 4 Dead 2 and interest grew. Stay tuned to see the progress here.

Microsoft Office 2013 Customer Preview now out!
Microsoft Office 2013 Customer Preview
Soto break it down, here's whats new in the Office 2013 Suite -
Touch everywhere. As you would expect, with Windows 8 and the touch screen implementation, the keyboard and mouse are not the only hardware products to use for the suite. Office now also responds to touch. How? Just swipe your finger across the screen or pinch and zoom to read your documents and presentations. You can create new content and access features using your finger.
Inking. With a stylus you can create content, or take notes and work with new features. For instance, you can handwrite email responses and then convert them automatically to text. Presentations? Well use the stylus as a laser pointer when talking to your audience. You can also color your content and fix or erase your mistakes easily.
New Windows 8 applications. Then there are two new apps, OneNote and Lync. For the Windows 8 environment, they represent the first new Office-style Windows 8 applications. These applications are designed to deliver touch-first experiences on a tablet.
Windows RT and ARM. Microsoft offers Office Home and Student 2013 RT. These contain new versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote applications, and they will be included on ARM-based Windows 8 devices, including Microsoft Surface for tablet.
Next Let’s talk about the Cloud
Microsoft is pushing the Azure Cloud quite heavily. They anticipate that this will be the technology of the future, where state-of-the-art programs and cutting-edge hardware technology will always be available. So here are some of the new features that they will offer on the Office 365 domain.
SkyDrive. Where do you save your files to? Office pushes them out to SkyDrive by default, so your content is always available across your tablet, PC and phone. In that capacity your documents are also available offline and synced up when you reconnect.
Roaming. Work and save. Work and Save. Work and Close. That means that once you are signed in to Office, your personalized settings, including your most recently used files, templates and even your custom dictionary will glide along with you across your devices. In fact, Office even remembers where you last left off and brings you right back to that spot in a single click.
Office on Demand. You are not alone. In fact, with a subscription, you can access Office even when you are away from your PC by streaming full-featured applications to an Internet-connected Windows-based PC. The Cloud service is with you wherever you go.
New subscription services. The new Office is available as a cloud-based subscription service. Subscribers automatically get future upgrades in addition to cutting edge Cloud Services including Skype world minutes and extra SkyDrive storage. Subscribers receive multiple installs for everyone in the family and across their devices.
The Social Network
Now we are in uncharted territory. Exactly why Microsoft chose to add social media programs to its Office Suite is not clear. But here is what you get.
Yammer. Yammer offers integration with SharePoint and Microsoft Dynamics. It also delivers a secure, private social network for businesses. The signup is free and you can start using social networking instantly.
Stay connected. SharePoint, well it’s the follower’s dream. Follow people, teams, documents and sites in SharePoint. You can also view and embed pictures, videos and Office content through your feeds to stay current and update your colleagues.
People Card. You can integrate views of your contacts everywhere in Office. What this means is that the People Card includes information about your connections complete with pictures, status updates, contact information and activity feeds from Facebook and LinkedIn accounts.
Skype. Then there is the feature involving Skype with Office. Sixty minutes of Skype connection is available every month when you subscribe. So you can integrate Skype contacts into Lync and call or instant message anyone on Skype.
New Scenarios
As if Microsoft wasn't thinking about enough new features for Office 2013 they added new scenarios to the mix.
Digital note-taking with One Note. This will keep your notes handy in the cloud and across multiple devices. And you can use this app with what feels most natural to you, that is, with touch, pen or keyboard, or use them together and switch back and forth.
Reading and markup. Here’s an interesting element. Word has a feature called The Read Mode. It provides a new kind of reading experience that automatically adjusts for large and small screens. Zoom in and out of content, stream videos within documents, view revision marks and use touch to turn pages.
Meetings. Not to be left out, PowerPoint has a Presenter View that privately shows your current and upcoming slides, presentation time and speaker notes in a single glance. So while you are making your presentation, you can zoom, mark up and navigate your slides with touch and stylus.

You have NO INTERNET TOMORROW (July 9th 2012)
If you wake up tomorrow and find out that you have no internet, and can't get to your facebook, or twitter, then you have something on your PC called DNS Changer, what is it you say? Well heres the explanation from "DCWG" - DNS Changer Working Group
"The botnet operated by Rove Digital altered user DNS settings, pointing victims to malicious DNS in data centers in Estonia, New York, and Chicago. The malicious DNS servers would give fake, malicious answers, altering user searches, and promoting fake and dangerous products. Because every web search starts with DNS, the malware showed users an altered version of the Internet."
You can go to this site , and find out how to detect & fix the issue, this only affects users using a Windows PC. Now you can use the fix(s) that they mention, but I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND to
just to a system restore, So if you haven't already Back up your data, which you should of already did a long while ago!! But if not go purchase a usb hard drive and copy your documents, photos, and other stuff that important to you, to the usb drive. (just as a quick basic way to get them safe!) then make sure you run your anti-malware/virus software to scan the new files on your usb back drive, or take your system to a PC service, like Geek Squad, Debug IT or your local tech guy... BUT make sure you if you don't have a backup to tell them that, so they will make one for you!! before losing all the important files you have been keeping on the PC. But if you want to do it yourself use the system restore discs or command, hopefully you still have your manual and look at the guide how to restore your PC. In the future look at backing up your files regularly to that USB drive either with Windows Backup which is FREE (for Vista & 7 here is how to do it), but if your using Windows XP even know they do have backup software included it's not that good, I would recommend Todo Backup Workstation from EASEUS, you can Purchase that here. BTW if you your not infected, BACK UP your files anyway, in the matter I mention to keep them safe.

Amazon's Web Services just got back up after storm, then was back down due to Leap Second
Reddit was just one of several web outfits that were hit by leap
second glitches just after midnight Greenwich Mean Time on Saturday,
including Gawker Media and Mozilla, and these sorts of problems tend to
pop up with every time there’s a leap second adjustment. In January
2009, for instance, the leap second reportedly caused problems with Sun
Microsystems’ Solaris operating system and an Oracle software package.
“Almost every time we have a leap second, we find something,” Linux’s creator, Linus Torvalds, tells Wired. “It’s really annoying, because it’s a classic case of code that is basically never run, and thus not tested by users under their normal conditions.”
The hrtimer glitch was patched in the Linux kernel this past March by a Linux kernel hacker named John Stultz, but some versions of Linux have not yet been updated to include this fix. Stultz was unavailable for comment on Monday, but in an post to an online mailing list, he discusses the problem that seemed to hit Reddit.

Boot 2 Gecko changes name to FireFox OS for there moblie OS
Alongside the name change, Mozilla also announced its hardware and
telecommunications partners for the Firefox OS consumer launch. The
focus will be on emerging markets and budget-conscious customers. The
first Firefox OS phones are expected to launch in early 2013 in Brazil,
on the Telefónica-owned brand Vivo, Mozilla said in a statement.
Mozilla’s hardware partners so far are ZTE and TCL Communication Technology (which will be branding its phones as Alcatel One Touch devices). Both Chinese companies are known for making low-priced, entry-level hardware. Handsets from both ZTE and TCL will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors, Mozilla said.
Among the wireless providers that are committed to selling Firefox OS phones are Sprint in the United States, Germany’s Deutsche Telekom, Abu Dhabi’s Etisalat, the Philippines’ Smart, Telecom Italia in (you guessed it) Italy, Spain’s Telefónica and Telenor in Norway.
The Firefox OS is being built to exclusively run web-based HTML5 apps, which we demoed at the CTIA Wireless show in New Orleans in May. The operating system and its included apps display a ton of potential, and Mozilla’s Chief of Innovation, Todd Simpson, said at CTIA that the company was focused on offering the open web on smartphones, free of the walled-off app and content stores seen on rivals such as Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS.

Second time in two months Apple filed claim with U.N. agency to get hands on a ipad3.com
Last month, for example, it first asked for, then was granted, control of iphone5.com, a domain that was used to host a discussion forum devoted to smartphones.
Although a WHOIS search conducted at the time Apple was awarded iphone5.com put the domain in the hands of Corporation Service Company (CSC), a Delaware legal, business and financial firm that offers domain protection and recovery services, a similar search Sunday showed that it is now registered to Apple itself.
In November 2011, the company was also successful in a bid to acquire iphone4s.com and seven other URLs, all with the "iphone" name, and several of which included phrases such as "porn," "sex" and "xxx."
